Hi! 👋 My name is Karen and I’m the creator behind Swingtoppers.

SWINGTOPPERS is an eco-friendly ceramic/bottle art project I started with a mission to revive the tradition of reusing glass vessels through the art of pottery-making, inspired during the peak of the pandemic while I was stuck in Indonesia. Witnessing a community using imported glass bottles for their homemade cordials, I sought a more sustainable alternative to reduce the carbon footprint.

The idea sparked when I discovered a vintage Dutch glass bottle with a swing-top wire mechanism. Studying the bottle, I realized I could reproduce the ceramic top and mechanism to encourage the reuse of wine bottles that would otherwise be discarded. Handcrafted and fired as a single, solid piece, the toppers are retrofitted onto locally rescued bottles using copper wires.

Upon returning to NYC, the project evolved to encompass a universal bottle-stopper, mini spice spoons tailored to fit small glass jars, and other pottery related treasures. Whether it be a spice spoon or a bottle topper, my aspiration is that each piece brought home eventually finds a perfect companion in the form of a salvaged glass jar or bottle.

My goal is to extend this passion project to more members of the community who share the belief that beautiful bespoke products can also be sustainable.
